TESTS

ROMBERG 30 STABLE/UNSTABLE

In the Romberg test the same balance test is performed eyes open and eyes closed. The standard Romberg test consists of a 52-second-measurement of both, but due to practical reasons the length of the measurement is usually 60 seconds. A positive Romberg test/sign occurs when there is an increased amount of sway or a loss of balance when a person is asked to stand with the feet placed close together with his or her eyes closed, as compared with the amount of sway with the eyes open.

LIMITS OF STABILITY

Four performances; Lean Forward, Lean Rearward, Lean Leftward, and Lean Rightward This protocol is used to test the person’s limits of stability in four directions. The tested person should stand in a normal standing positions heels separately. Note that the reference limits are hard to reach even for someone who hasn’t got balance problems. It is important that the tested person’s height is correct in order to calculate accurate leaning angles.

WEIGHT CHECK

Standard weight measurement.
