REPUBLIC POLYTECHNIC AND WELLNESS HUB
Our heartiest congratulations to Republic Polytechnic on the opening of their Health and Wellness Hub! The Hub was officially opened by Parliamentary Secretary for Health, Rahayu Mahzam on the 4th of November 2021.
"The establishment of the Health and Wellness Hub will be useful in reinforcing our efforts in population health and health promotion," Ms Rahayu said. "We want to look at health, beyond healthcare, and how we can better support Singaporeans in making healthy lifestyle choices, leading healthier lives," she added.
A Web portal was launched at the same time, offering healthcare courses from RP's Continuing Education and Training programme for those interested in upskilling.
The RP Health and Wellness Hub was established in response to the Ministry of Health’s ‘3 Beyonds’ strategy and is in alignment with Singapore's Research, Innovation, Enterprise (RIE) 2025 plan.
With the aim to develop technologies, solutions and programmes that help in environmental control, improve population health, enhance quality of life and digitalise healthcare, RP Health and Wellness Hub is a one-stop Portal with the following focus:
Community Health Activation & Transformation (ComHAT) Living LabResearch and Development of health innovations and commercialisations with health tech industry partnersRich and exciting Continuing Education Training (CET) Courses and programmes in Health and Wellness
HUR Solutions is excited to be a part of this collaboration along with the various agencies and stakeholders and look forward to sharing the knowledge of lifelong strength for all! HUR is dedicated to raising awareness of the influence of technology and equipment on restoring, improving and maintaining movement and strength for disease management and long term well- being.
HUR Solutions collaborated with Republic Polytechnic and Sport Singapore to design the HUR strength-training for inclusive fitness CET course. This one-day certificate course is being offered as part of Enhanced Training Support Package (ETSP) to impart relevant knowledge and skills to create evidence-based training programs for elderly and PWDs using HUR Activ8 strength training concepts. The course aims to equip participants with the knowledge and skills to confidently prescribe resistance training to elderly and persons with disabilities (PWDs). HUR @ World Ageing Festival
Once again, HUR showcased at Ageing Asia's World Ageing Festival 2021 “Live” exhibition and conference at One Farrer Hotel.
We'd like to warmly thank H.E. Ambassador of Finland in Singapore, Mr Antti Vänskä for visiting our stand. We are very honoured and pleased to share Smart Finnish strength training and dementia care solutions as well as new and exciting collaborations in Singapore.

We are delighted to share that the HUR SmartBalance and Expresso/Cybercycle Bike are showcased at National University Health System (NUHS) - Centre for Innovation in Healthcare (CIH), located in Alexandra Hospital.
NUHS-CIH is a one-stop hub with the goal of facilitating clinical adoption of practice changing innovations for public good and global impact. NUHS-CIH achieves this goal by complementing other partners in the innovation ecosystem. By virtue of NUHS-CIH being part of NUHS, NUHS-CIH focuses on clinical testing and health technology assessment by leveraging on its core assets of patients, healthcare professionals, and health data.

Dr Tuire at SATA's Osteoporosis and Falls Prevention Festival 2021
Dr Tuire Karaharju-Huisman spoke at SATA’s Osteoporosis and Falls Prevention Festival on the topic of: Falls prevention, strength and balance – from testing to training on 20th Nov 2021.
Many risk factors, and reasons for falls, can be addressed by exercise, especially with balance and strength training. For community-dwelling adults, a combination of high challenge balance training with progressive resistance training, is recommended. Furthermore, a study by Hewitt et al. (2018) found a 55% reduction in falls in residential care after balance and strength-based exercise programs. Proper testing and training methods are key to a successful program. Her presentation explored testing and training equipment and methods, specifically the use of the HUR SmartBalance, Senso, a cognitive gaming platform, as well as HUR SmartTouch strength training equipment and training concepts.

About Dr. Tuire Kangasharju-Huisman
Tuire Karaharju-Huisman graduated as a physiotherapist in Finland. After two years of clinical work in private practice she pursued her research ambition at Karolinska Hospital investigating walking and balancing in children with neurological defects. After moving to Melbourne, her research focus changed to falls prevention in older people with her doctoral dissertation investigating slipping risk during level walking.
After 11 years as an academic lecturer of biomechanics, rehabilitation and exercise physiology, Tuire joined HUR Australia in 2015. With her clinical, academic and research and research experience, she brings expertise in the design and implementation of best practice exercise solutions in rehabilitation and active ageing. Tuire has an active role in HUR education and is the main producer of HUR Newsletter and Webinars.
